Izak (also written as Isaac) Daniel Buys - A right-handed batsman but a left-arm, fast-medium bowler, Izak Buys was born in Somerset East, Cape Colony, South Africa on February 4, 1895. However, the date of his death is unknown and therefore no obituary appeared within the covers of Wisden for him. Playing for Western Province, his first-class career was short, less than three years spanning the period 1921/22 to 1924/25, but he also managed one Test for his country. His batting was poor - in nineteen visits to the crease in his twelve matches, he never once attained double figures - but his bowling was useful for the time. Three times he took five wickets in an innings, once per season from 1921/22 to 1923/24, his best being 6 for 49 at Johannesburg in a Currie Cup match against Border in December 1923. As well as three catches in Border’s first innings, Buys took a further three wickets in their second, this being the closest he came to a 10-wicket haul in a match. His sole Test was the first of the series, played at Johannesburg, on England’s 1922/23 tour. He scored 0 and 4 not out with the bat and failed to take a wicket with the ball.
